Material Analysis

To prefect a material REL goes through an intense development process. REL runs tests on each material to check several properties. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar is used to check stress and strain of the materials. It is essential for REL to know these properties so that the developed materials can have its properties tailored specially for the application needed.

When different metals are mixed, chemical and physical reactions occur. To view how these reactions change the particle sizes and shapes, REL uses their Scanning Electron Microscope.

Once a system has been perfected, each product still must be tested to reduce risk of failure. It is essential for ones integrity to be sure that there aren’t flaws in what they produce, blame lies directly in the hands of the manufacturer, which is why REL uses its non destructive testing systems, Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection, to check every piece for detectable flaws.

REL has three different processes to analyze materials; fluorescent penetrant inspection system (FPI), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB).
