Ceramic preforms

Ceramic Shapes

It is of the utmost importance to able to form high quality, dimensionally accurate, ceramic shapes required for precursors for various MMC applications. At REL, we have extensive experience forming assorted complex shapes of various densities with a variety of binder systems. This in-house capability is paramount to the success of developing and manufacturing MMC components as matrix-reinforcement interfaces need to be tailored to achieve optimized mechanical properties.

Other potential uses for this ceramic forming technology could range from creating materials with high conductivity for heat removal from a part or other materials with very low conductivity for insulating applications. Specific examples would be Matrix Brakes and the NASA insulation tiles respectively.

REL has three standard shapes available, 24 and 6 inch squares as well as a 5.5 inch diameter circle.
