NASA Insulation Panels

REL Inc is a leader in binder-less ceramic processing and has currently provided extreme temperature fiber insulation to NASA. REL partnered with NASA on the return to flight effort in order to keep the launch schedule for 2006 and 2007 on track. REL's product is on the space station 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

REL developed an extreme temperature insulation that has ultra fine density control. This density control is a result of a precisely designed extreme temperature sintering process for ceramic fiber. REL has the capability to make this insulation in a variety of flat shapes and densities ranging from 3 to 15 pound per cubic foot densities. Maximum outside dimensions is 24 by 42 inches.

NASA Insulation now available for Industry

Breakthrough insulation technology developed and manufactured at REL for NASA’s space shuttle is now available for industrial use. The highly insulating fiber panels that are needed in everyday applications are available on the market. However many applications require insulation that does not outgas (i.e. burn off shape maintaining organic material) during high temperature usage. REL’s panels contain NO BINDER which allows for consistent thermal properties and a clean/eco friendly performance.
